The Wildcat Road Mile- 2016 edition

Saturday was my third time to race in the Wildcat Road Mile. This is a small, local race that benefits my daughter’s cross country team. The mile is an intimidating distance for me and coming off a marathon recovery cycle was not the ideal time to race it. I started a little too aggressive and then lost focus on the third quarter and really ran out of steam. I pushed through and finished with a 5:30. I probably won’t be racing a mile again until next summer but I’m not through with this distance yet. Even though I didn’t have the time I wanted nothing gives me more joy than seeing my kids excited and happy with doing their best and they all had a great race!

Wildcat Mile

My oldest (12) set a PR of 6:47 and my son (10) broke 7 minutes for the first time ever with 6:58! (This was a 30 second PR.) Then my youngest daughter (8) ran her fastest time ever in 8:06!  My youngest son and my husband did not run but they were cheering us all on and it was very encouraging. My kids have other athletic interests throughout the year (swim team, softball, basketball, etc.) but running is one sport we all do together and I ❤️ it!
